New Assembly Hall – King John School, Essex

The scheme was to construct a new assembly hall with a stage, store rooms and a dedicated AV (Audio Visual) room with seating for up to 400 people.f .

The building is of a pentagon shape consisting of strip foundations and a leaning steel frame structure. The floor is of a block and beam construction with an insulated screed on top. The inner leaf of the building is blockwork with a studwork partition on the inside.

The bottom part of the external leaf is brickwork as well as the five corners of the building. The rest of the building is cladded with insulated panels.

The roof has a metal deck with an insulated single ply membrane with an acoustic suspended ceiling, installed with numerous stage lighting bars protruding through.The air source heat pump was installed to heat and cool the building.

The new assembly hall is linked to the existing school by a 3m wide corridor that was formed between the existing two storey school building.
