New Teaching Facilities – Chancellors School

This exciting new project involved the refurbishment and conversion of existing school gym into reception, classrooms & ancillary spaces.

The scheme included the refurbishment of an existing school gym to create a new main reception, four classrooms with fitted teacher walls, offices, meeting rooms, kitchen area, and toilets. Works included full re-plastering, new floor and ceiling finishes, and a bespoke reception counter.

A steel frame mezzanine was installed to form a new first floor using timber joists and acoustic decking, accessed via a new steel staircase. Acoustic linings were added to perimeter walls to reduce noise from the adjacent sports hall.

Foundations were underpinned locally to support new steel columns. Sections of the existing façade were removed and replaced with curtain walling and windows, while the existing roof and floor were retained.

A steel roof deck was added to support mechanical plant, with solar panels installed across the remaining roof area. The entire building received new rendered façades, modernising its external appearance.

The project delivered a modern, functional space with improved acoustics, enhanced energy efficiency, and a refreshed architectural identity, supporting the school’s evolving educational needs.

This marks the sixth phase of work at the school, continuing our collaboration with the same client, architect, and employer’s agent. Our strong working relationship with the Danes Educational Trust remains a key factor in the success of these projects—this is now our 11th project together across two schools.
