Following an intense fire which started within the bell tower, the main church was substantially fire and smoke damaged. A number of areas of the lime plaster had lost its key and become loose.
The project comprised of specialist chemical decontamination and deep cleansing of the walls, ceilings, natural stone and associated timber.
The damaged ceiling and wall plaster was carefully removed to expose the timber laths. Using traditional skills, our directly employed special projects team renewed the laths and lime plaster and finishing with a lime wash.
As a result of the fire, the existing electrical system was damaged beyond repair; a new electrical system was installed including lighting, sound and security systems.
Our specialist joinery department supplied and installed a bespoke solid oak encasement to the rear of the church.
During the renovation, the team liaised closely with the church ensuring they could still administer a daily mass service and regular Sunday services.
Successful completion of the project was largely due to our special works department renovating the historic building sympathetically restoring the church back to its former glory.
