Stanborough School Phase 1 – New Teaching Block

The scheme was to construct a new two storey teaching block to provide 16 new classrooms and the refurbishment of science classrooms to create spacious and practical working facilities for the teachers and students at Stanborough School.

On each floor, there are 8 classrooms, offices, toilets, 2 staircases on either end of the building and a platform lift. The classrooms were equipped with interactives smartboard, PC’s, IT workstations, tables and chairs. Roof lights were installed to allow additional natural light into the classrooms.

The refurbishment of the science classrooms involved the complete strip out of the 4 existing classrooms and the removal of the internal existing walls converting them into 2 large science
rooms providing more practical work stations. The science classrooms were furnished with new flooring, desks, chairs, gas taps, sinks and whiteboards.

The teaching block was built of pad and strip foundations with block and beam floor and substructure blockwork. The superstructure was constructed with a steel frame, concrete floor
slab and a metal decked roof.

The external envelope consisted mainly of brickwork with elements of curtain walling and cladding. The internal leaf of the building was formed using a SFS system with plasterboard and skim finish.
