Evers is proud to have supported the delivery of a brand-new Wheels for All accessible cycling hub at Old Heath Recreation Ground, Colchester, bringing inclusive cycling opportunities to the heart of the local community.
The newly completed facility provides much-needed infrastructure that will enable people of all ages and abilities to experience the joy, freedom and wellbeing that cycling can bring. Wheels for All is dedicated to making cycling accessible to everyone, particularly those who may not be able to, or may not feel confident to, cycle independently on open roads. Through adapted cycles and a safe, supportive environment, the charity helps participants develop confidence, independence and valuable social connections.
Our involvement in this project was inspired by our long-standing relationship with Mervyn Denney, former Managing Director of Evers, who now volunteers his time with the charity. His passion, together with the dedication of the Wheels for All team, has helped expand inclusive cycling opportunities across Essex.
Locally, the initiative is led by Jo Smith, Wheels for All Coordinator for Colchester, whose commitment has been instrumental in bringing this new hub to life. With successful programmes already established at Colchester Northern Gateway, Braintree and Clacton, the addition of Old Heath Recreation Ground represents another significant step in making accessible cycling available to even more people across the county.
As part of our commitment to supporting local communities, Evers was pleased to provide the plant, labour and materials required to excavate the site and construct the concrete base for the new cycle shelter and storage building, creating a lasting facility that will benefit the community for years to come.
