St Mary’s C of E Primary Academy School, Kelvedon – Opening Ceremony

On Thursday 29th June 2017, we joined St Mary’s C of E Primary Academy School in celebrating the opening of their new teaching block.

The opening ceremony was attended by the project team, school governors, parents of the pupils who are studying in the new teaching block and the local Vicar who carried out a blessing on the building.

During the ceremony, the plaque we fixed to the building was revealed officially naming it ‘The Roundhouse Learning Zone’.

The Roundhouse Learning Zone provides 4 new classrooms with stores, a break out room, staff room, toilets for year 1 pupils, EYFS and disabled toilets.

Project Description:

The single storey building consists of a steel portal frame, steel framing system clad externally with brick facework. The building has a central row of clerestory windows, the positioning of these provides additional high levels of natural light into the classrooms.

The roof consists of metal purlins with an insulated single ply membrane. The floor consists of ground bearing slab insulation and screed. The toilet areas and corridors are heated via underfloor heating and the classrooms are heated and cooled via air conditioning units.

Externally there is a aluminium frame canopy with polycarbonate roof sheets. This structure connects to the classroom elevation to provide undercover teaching /play space that leads onto the playground.
