RAAC Roof Repairs, White Court School
The project comprised structural strengthening of the existing RAAC roof structure over the central section of an existing primary school in Essex.
Evers were engaged by Essex County Council to undertake these works via the ECF2 Framework for the Provision of Major Capital Construction Projects in the county of Essex.
Having reviewed the initial surveys Evers undertook further surveys of the existing roof structure whilst continuing with regular monitoring surveys for an initial period, until the works commenced. The survey results were issued to the Client and their Engineer to enable a final design to be produced detailing the work content. This was an extension to the initial structural investigations to try and establish the impact of the design solution on services, asbestos and firestopping. This additional information was needed to allow for enabling works to be undertaken to facilitate subsequent phasing whilst maintaining necessary services to allow the school to continue to function.
The work comprised a secondary steel frame within the main school hall with extensive structural carpentry strengthening works across the remaining areas, which included the kitchen, several areas of teaching space, including 6 classrooms, quiet areas etc, pupil and staff toilets, main office and admin accommodation and general circulation routes.
The work was commenced during the school summer holiday period to enable the most crucial and intrusive works to be undertaken without interruption to the day to day running of the school. The scope and nature of structural works necessitated the duration to extend beyond the summer holiday. Evers meticulously planned this work to ensure minimal disruption to the school, optimising out of hours working and school holidays whenever possible.
During the course of the remedial works necessary upgrades to the electrical installation was undertaken, in parallel with firestopping and the installation of a new fire alarm system.
The project was completed on time and hailed a success by Essex County Council.
